Irene Wegner

Irene F. Wegner, nee Nitzu, 87, entered eternal life peacefully and is finally home on 12-11-14. Irene was born on 8-3-27 in Canton, Ohio. Her family moved to the west side of Chicago in the early 1930’s. She was a graduate of Austin High School and married Max in 1947. She enjoyed traveling the country with Max during his years in the US Navy. When they returned to Chicago in the early 50’s, they resided on the west side of Chicago until they purchase their home on North Rutherford Ave in the 60’s where they celebrated holidays with friends and family. Irene was employed by Zenith for 35 years. Irene is survived by her brother, Nicholas Nitzu (the late Kay). She was the proud aunt of nephews, Nicholas Stanitz (Peggy), C. James Stanitz Jr. (Melody), Nicholas Shargo (Ruth), nieces Vicky Shargo, Nikki-Kay Nitzu Vahldick, Julie Nitzu LaFrenere (Tony), Susan Nitzu Spina (Tony), Kathy Stanitz (the late John), Helen Zimmerman (Herb) and sister in law, Lynn Morris Nitzu (the late John) and many great nieces and nephews. She was a loyal friend to many.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Anna Simu-1982 & Peter Nitzu-1951 husband, Max Wegner-2006, sisters Victoria Stanitz-2000 (the late C. James Sr.-2000), Ann Shargo-2003 (the late Nicholas-1995) brothers, Peter-1936, John-2005, niece, Janette Shargo-Krzystofczyk-1991, Jeanette Abbott (2008) nephews, William Stanitz-1971, John Stanitz-2007, C. James Stanitz III-2014.

Visitation Tuesday, December 16th 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Romanian Orthodox Church, 4225 N. Central, Chicago. Interment Rosehill Cemetery, Chicago. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Romanian Orthodox Church or the Charity of your choice.
