Henryk Ruzyc, 79, of Des Plaines, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 2, 2024 with his family at his side. Beloved husband of Anna (nee Bielski); loving father of Zofia (Brian O'Malley) Ruzyc; proud grandfather of Johnny and Anna; dear brother of the late Wieslaw (Danuta) Ruzyc; fond uncle of Lydia (Waldemar) Brzank and Marzena (Robert) Jaworski. He is further survived by numerous cousins, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
Growing up in Warsaw, Poland under occupation, and the subsequent communist regime taught Henry resourcefulness and creativity. As a young boy, you could always find Henry scrounging for reusable items and making deals with local vendors.
As a young adult, Henry earned his Master Engraver degree after completing an unpaid 5 year internship. Even though it was difficult without a steady income, Henry saw the possibilities for his future.
In 1971, Henry met the love of life Anna. After a whirlwind romance, they wed in 1972 in Warsaw and put down roots in Chicago. Their daughter Zofia arrived shortly after. As an immigrant Henry held numerous jobs outside his chosen field.
It wasn’t until 1981 that his professional dreams came true. He opened his own jewelry store, Henry’s Hand Engraving. He was finally able to put his education to work and make a decent living. Through hard work, long hours, and dedication he created a thriving business that specializes in hand engraving, custom design and manufacturing, bridal jewelry, antique restoration, and watch repair.
In his adult years, Henry visited Poland often. He and Anna also became world travelers, vacationing in South America, Europe, Australia, and Asia. Upon the birth of his grandchildren, Johnny and Anna, Henry slowed down his travels to spend time with his family. His pride in his grandchildren was evident at every performance, game, and holiday dinner.
