Helen Louise Gaines Hoge, 85, passed away Wednesday, January 24, with her loving husband by her side.
The daughter of Leonard and Mary Arlene Gaines, Helen was born on July 19, 1938, in Joliet, Illinois. She had two brothers and a sister.
She graduated from Joliet Township High School in 1956 and worked at the First National Bank of Joliet, where she met her husband, Bob. They were married on September 27, 1958, in Joliet.
They raised their four children in Plainfield and St. Charles. Helen was a warm, humble, smiling, gracious woman who wore many hats as a bookkeeper, homemaker, and administrative assistant at Midwest Groundcover for 15 years. She also worked 14 years as a home healthcare provider for Delnor Hospital, volunteered for Valley Golden Agers, Hi-Hat in Geneva, was a docent in Lincoln’s New Salem State Park in Springfield, and taught religious education at St. Patrick Parish, where she was a longtime member. She loved to travel with her husband. Helen enjoyed a variety of music, reading, but most of all serving others and especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bob, brother, Frank (Deborah), sister-in-law, Michaelynn (Tom) Rose, son Michael, daughters Madonna (Richard) Strom, Christina (Patrick) Kenkel, and son Terry; eight grandchildren, Greg (Kelly) Strom, Ryne Strom, Mary (Kevin) Tighe, Emily (Alex) Antonelli, Joseph Kenkel, Tyler (Claire) Strom, Nick Strom and Katie Kenkel; 10 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Jeanne Suca McGowan and brother, Robert.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. February 15, 2024, at St. Patrick Parish, 6N491 Crane Rd., St. Charles, Illinois. The internment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick Parish in St. Charles.
