Helen E. Froude, 91, of Bartlett, IL passed away on November 30, 2023. Helen is survived by her beloved children, Constance (David) Ware, William (Julie) Froude, and Raymond (Erika) Froude; cherished grandchildren Mari, Emily and Amanda Froude. She was preceded in death by her former husband William C. Froude, Jr., and her parents Raymond and Helen Hyatt.
Helen grew up in White Plains, New York. She received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Smith College in 1954. After graduation, she worked for seven years in the actuarial and statistical divisions of Metropolitan Life in New York City and began her MBA, studying to become an actuary. She married Bill Froude in 1957. She and Bill moved to Connecticut in 1961 and Des Plaines, Illinois in 1963. Once she began having children in 1961, she was primarily a stay-at-home mom for her three children and did volunteer work at local church organizations. Sadly, she and Bill divorced in 1974 and he died in an airplane crash in 1975.
In 1979, Helen earned an M.S.W. from Loyola University Chicago and became a certified social worker. She then worked in the family service division of the Salvation Army. Due to poor health, she left the field of social work prematurely for less demanding work. She worked part-time at Sears and at Dominick’s Finer Foods until she retired in 2002. Helen loved her children and their families and was a very proud grandma of her three granddaughters. She greatly enjoyed having family dinners and holidays together. Happily, Helen spent this past Thanksgiving together with her family.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023 from 9:00 am until 10:30 am at Countryside Funeral Home, 950 South Bartlett Rd. Bartlett, IL 60103. We will process to St. Peter Damian Catholic Church, 131 S. Crest Ave. Bartlett, IL, for mass at 11:00 am. Interment All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. For information, please contact Countryside Funeral Home, 630-289-7575.
