Hartzell Smith

Hartzell D. “Smitty” Smith, 89, of Elgin, died Thursday, June 9, 2011 at his home. Born February 5, 1922 in Mitchell, SD. He was the son of Jesse and Violet (nee Fisk).
A veteran of WWII having served in the Marines. Smitty was very proud of being a veteran and was a member of the American Legion in Elgin. He worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for 47 years and was an avid cubs fan, but his true passion was being with his family.
Survivors include wife Edna (nee Orr); children Beverly (William), Gail, Susan (James), Debra (Joseph), Violet (significant other Florenciano), Penny (Billy) and Naomi (Paul); 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and sisters Naomi (Larry) and Norma Dell.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Denise, great grandchild Nicholas, parents and brother-in-law Pen.
Visitation Sunday 2:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at the Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory, 95 S Gilbert St (at Middle Rd), South Elgin. Funeral Monday 10:00a.m. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established.
