Harry Vosburg

February 9, 1924 — August 6, 2014

Harry Vosburg, age 90, died on Wednesday, August 6, 2014. He was born in Clare, Michigan, to Harry Vosburg, Sr, and Margaret May (Wright) Vosburg. He graduated from Farwell High School as class valedictorian, and immediately enlisted in the Navy to fight for his country in World War II. He served on the USS Halsey Powell in the Pacific Theater from 1943 - 1946, where he was a radio operator, and participated in eight major battle engagements. He came
home and used the GI Bill to become a radio operator for the airline industry, eventually working for Aeronautical Radio Incorporated for 36 years, working his way up to being Regional Manager for the entire Midwest. He retired in 1987.
A longtime resident of Hanover Park, he was a founding member of St. Ansgar Catholic Parish, and served there as head usher, and member of the Parish Council, the Finance Committee, and chaired the Building and Fundraising Committee for the renovation. He was an elected Park Board Member for the Park District. He was a founding member of the Hanover Park Boys Baseball Association, and served as a coach for both Little League baseball teams and Pop
Warner football teams, including an undefeated championship season. He had a wonderful stage presence as a member of the St. Ansgar Players, and he was hilarious playing such characters as Will Rogers and Injun Joe.
After spending vacations there for several years, he and his wife Gloria purchased a cabin on a lake in the Upper Peninsula, and spent 10 happy years as full time Yoopers, becoming pillars of their new community as members of St. Tim's Catholic Parish. He joined the Lion's Club and was named Lion of the Year in 2007. Health problems pushed them to move closer to family, and they moved to the Devonshire in 2011. He was an active member of the Devonshire community as well, winning poker tournaments and lunching with his buddies. He will be
missed. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gloria (Tomczak) Vosburg, his four children, Jerry, Jeff and his wife Sue (Feidt), Maggie Mansueto and her husband Tony, and Jon and his wife Nikki (Suchomski), ten grandchidren, Joshua, Melissa, Matthew, Stephanie, Roenick, Bryce, Maria, Coeli, and Simon Harry, and one great grandchild.
