Harriet Karas (née Talalaj), 69, of Itasca, born in Kamionka, Poland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 8, 2024. Harriet was known for her kind heart, unwavering love for her family, and her passion for life’s simple pleasures. She found joy in cooking meals for her loved ones, tending to her garden, and relaxing with Lifetime and Hallmark movies. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Harriet’s warm presence, love, and devotion will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Beloved wife of 52 years to Stanley; loving mother of Margaret (Mark) Arrington, Ursula (Michael) Thoroe, Yolanda (Paul) Magin, and Bridget (Steve) Loyd; devoted grandmother of Briana (Matt) Mourao, Alexxa Arrington, Amelia Loyd, and Camden and Aviana Thoroe; proud great-grandmother of Dawson and Daxton Mourao; cherished daughter of the late Waclaw and the late Amelia (née Wasilewska) Talalaj; dear sister of Helen (the late Waclaw) Wilczko, Irene (the late Tadeusz “Ted”) Kosk, the late Bogdan (Jolanta) Talalaj, and the late Elzbieta Rutkowska; and a fond aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 17 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory 333 S. Roselle Rd. (½ mile south of Irving Park Rd.), Roselle. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, December 18 with prayers at 9:45 AM at the funeral home, proceeding to St. Peter the Apostle Church for a 10:30 AM Mass.
