Grace B. Cabalum, (nee: Balabagno), 59. Beloved wife of Cid, loving sister of Rolando (Araceli) Balabagno, Wenona (Russel) Hormigoso, Violeta (Ricardo) Puno, Marietta (William) Losbanes, Minda (Renato) Oracion, Perpetual (Craig) Kukielski, Mojana (Robert) Weyh, Richard (Lariza) Balabagno and the late Shirley (the late Keith) Levitt, The late Fely (the late Modesto) Mercado; fond aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Grace and Cid were childhood friends in the Philippines and had their fairy tale wedding on August 22,
1993. From that day forward they devoted their lives to each other, their large families and their
multitude of friends from around the world. “Ging Ging” as she was affectionately called, loved to
entertain. Whether that was at her home or camping, all left satisfied. She had a bright and warm
personality that matched her favorite colors, especially fuschia. She created many wonderful dishes
but she is most noted for her scrumptious Pancit.
Another labor of love she had was working as a nurse in the mother to baby department at St. Alexius Medical Center, Hoffman Estates for thirty plus years. She put her heart and soul into all of her patients and many have
reached out throughout the years to thank her for the love and care she provided for them.
Grace loved to travel and visit friends and family in Europe, The Caribbean, Australia, Italy, France,
Mexico but especially Iloilo, her hometown in the Philippines. There she and Cid took in the beautiful
sights, visited family and former classmates from Central Philippines University and immersed
themselves in the culture. Of all the places they traveled, the Philippines was always their favorite,
because there is no place like home.
Ging Ging loved to shop, not only for herself, for others as well. She sent boxes home to the Philippines
for families, paying attention to details, trying to find the perfect items for each person. She is
Godmother to many and exemplified that faith as a parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntley
for over thirty years.
Her legacy of true altruism and compassion will live on in all that she knew and loved.
