Gloria A. Cotton, daughter of Jack and Mary (Stewart) Cotton, was born on May 13, 1939 in East St. Loius, IL. She went home to be with the Lord suddenly Tuesday, November 11, 2014 from a massive heart attack. She is survived by her immediate family: her only child Cyrnoff Cowan (Stacie), her granddaughter Olivia Grace Cowan, and her brother Thomas Cotton (Geneva). She leaves behind a host of extended family members and friends to mourn her passing and to celebrate her life! She was preceded in death by her late sister Verndella Evans.
Gloria had nearly three decades of multi-faceted Health Care experience. She provided assisted/supportive living to numerous families in the positions of Patient Aide Provider, Certified Nurse’s Assistant, and Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Assistants. She spent over twenty years providing quality in-home care for the elderly, ill children and infants, post-surgery patients with special needs and disabilities. Additionally, she provided compassionate care for Hospice, chronically and terminally ill patients.
She loved working with people and had a special spiritual skill set to work with those that were infirmed and at various end of life stages. Her patients often referred to her an “Angel.” She was often commended for her excellent gifts and ability to empathize with individuals in need of medical attention and supportive/assisted living. She acted as an effective liaison between patients and families helping them cope and move forward during their family crisis and grieving processes.
Gloria was a three time cancer survivor! She was very active with the American Breast Cancer Society as a fundraiser and speaker. She always sought opportunities to share her story of survival in hopes of encouraging and motivating others. She had a great love for volunteering her services to support both humanity and divinity. She volunteered and was an active fundraiser for the Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago and a past Den Mother for the Boy Scouts of America. She was a volunteer at Church in the Word located in Elgin, IL. She was second in charge for their food Pantry. She was loved and will be missed by all.
Rest well, until we meet again.
