Gladys Fitch

October 12, 1926 — April 10, 2016

By the wise providence of God, Gladys was born on October 12, 1926 in Chicago, IL to her parents John and Elin Finstrom.

She would go to Austin High School in Chicago where she would graduate with the class of 1942, and from there she went on to Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota for two years. In 1948, the Lord caused the paths of Gladys Finstrom and Franklin Fitch to meet at Central Avenue Baptist Church in Chicago and they became one in marriage on June 30, 1951 (being "heirs" together of the grace of life"). God richly blessed them with 39 years of marriage and enriched them with three children: Stephen, Sharon and Susan and with seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Frank and Gladys would make their home in Streamwood in 1958, where Gladys continued to live until 2005, when she moved to Clio, Michigan. Gladys was a wife and homemaker and also worked for many years as a custom drape maker at Ackemanns and Spiess. She also worked for Glidden Paint. She was a seamstress, and enjoyed gardening, painting and hanging wallpaper. She played both the organ and piano and enjoyed the family's camping vacations. Through the years she was a member of Central Avenue Baptist Church, Chicago, First Baptist Church, Streamwood, Faith Baptist Church, Streamwood and Home Baptist Church, Clio, MI.

The Lord blessed Gladys with 89 years of life upon this earth and on Sunday Morning, April 10th, at the Hurley Hospital in Flint, Michigan, the Lord blessed her by carrying her into his heavenly home to be forever with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Her husband Franklin preceded her to heaven on November 16, 1990 and she was also preceded in death by her parents John and Elin.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children; Stephen and wife Trish, Sharon and husband Dan and Sue; seven grandchildren- Stephen, David, Justin, Ben, Amanda, Kory and Kayla; ten great grandchildren, sisters Edith Moore, Ruth Blomgren and brother John Finstrom and many nieces and nephews. Gladys will be missed by family and friends.
