Girjashanker Bhatt

Girjashanker V. Bhatt (better known as Gijubhai), 85, of Darien, Illinois, passed away at home Nov. 4, 2014, with his family by his side.

He was born to the late Vaijnathbhai and Chanchalben Bhatt on Dec. 19, 1928 in Gujarat, India. Gijubhai was a very well-educated and accomplished man. He attended Siddharth College in Mumbai, India where he received a Bachelor of Science and B. Tech degree along with being named a Gold Medalist student. He held a prestigious position of Joint Commissioner of FDA in the state of Gujarat. Gijubhai's hard work and merit allowed him to earn a WHO World Tour in 1970.

In 1945 he married Virumati Jhaveri and they lived together in India until relocating to Illinois in 1994 with his son and daughter-in-law, Satish and Rekha Bhatt.

Gijubhai is survived by four children: Satish Bhatt and Rekha Bhatt of Darien, Illinois; Dilip and Mrudula Bhatt of Orland Park, Illinois; Asha and Jayant Gandhi of Duarte, CA; and Kunjan and Kamlesh Trivedi of Woodridge, Illinois. He is survived by six grandchildren: Parag and Namrata Pandya of India; Chirag and Shilpesh Dave of Green Bay, WI; Jay Bhatt of Chicago, Illinois; Kinjal Bhatt of Orland Park, Illinois; Paras and Roopina Bhatt of North Branford, CT; Darshan and Reetu Bhatt of Henderson, NV. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren: Vishwesh Pandya, Divyansh Dave, Sahil Bhatt, and Sohan Bhatt.

Gijubhai was very active in the Indian community, he frequented the temple weekly and performed religious rituals for family and friends. Furthermore, Gijubhai enjoyed many trips traveling with his wife, son, and daughter-in-law. He most recently vacationed to Alaska this past summer with his family. He was a very kind and gentle person who will be missed tremendously by everyone.

Visitation and funeral services for Mr. Bhatt of Darien will be held Thursday, November 6th from 1:00 p.m. until the time of cremation 3:00 p.m. at the Countryside Funeral Home & Crematory, 950 South Bartlett Rd., (at Stearns Rd.) Bartlett.
