Gerard Bastrentaz, age 58 of Wayne, Illinois formerly of Cognin, France, beloved husband of Mary; dear brother of Bernard, brother-in law of Holly (Phil) Pharmer, Joan MacLain and Bruce (Phyllis) MacLain; cherished uncle of Alexandra (Pascal) Crochet and Agnes, Dana Shuler, Aaron (Casey) Pharmer, Justin (Kim) Pharmer, Meghan MacLain and many great nieces and nephews.
Gerard was an avid bird watcher, loved to bike and play the guitar. Gerard was both an optician and chef by trade, working at the Illinois College of Optometry for 23 years, and for 5 years as a chef instructor at Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School. He appreciated all the latest in technology and gadgets, and enjoyed spending time in the garden at home. In the evening, he always cherished the company of his four kitties.
Visitation is on Sunday, April 29, at Countryside Funeral Home & Crematory 3-9pm, 950 South Bartlett Rd. (at Stearns Rd.) Bartlett. Funeral Service on Monday, April 30, at 11:30am. Following services cremation will be private at the Countryside Crematory.
