Frank Keough

November 8, 1939 — April 21, 2022

On April 21, 2022 Francis (Frank) Leo Keough of Bartlett, IL, formerly of Half Day, passed on to the next life. He was the embodiment of “Family First.” His wife, children, and grandchildren never doubted that they were his top priority. He was a man of incredible kindness and strong convictions. He loved his family, God, and his country.

He was an avid sports enthusiast, being a star player in various positions on the Ela Vernon Bears baseball, basketball, and football teams in high school. As an adult, he was a valued member of more recreational leagues than his loving wife cares to count. He brought his athletic knowledge to the next generation as a dedicated Little League and Pony League coach throughout the late 70s and early 80s, leading the Bartlett Blue Jays to an undefeated season in 1980. In Frank Keough, The Chicago White Sox, (Arizona) Cardinals, and Fighting Illini had a loyal, if occasionally berating, fan.

His Catholic faith was the cornerstone of his life. He served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Peter Damian parish and was a shining example of humility and devotion to the Lord.

Frank was the husband of Joyce, nee Spoerlein; father of Jeff (Lisa), Beverly (Rick) Nickelson, Steve (Kelly) and Colleen (Ryan) Wagner; Papa of Nate, Jake, Alex, Mia, Brooke, Max, Cameron and Keira; brother of the late Leona (late Robert) Elfering, Gertrude (late Verne) Moon, Edward ( Lei), late good friend and brother Raymond (Mary Ann), Mary Ann (Richard) Hensel, late Lawrence, Kathie (Russell) Maschek; son of the late Edward and Martha, nee DeMeyer and uncle of many nieces and nephews.

A graduate of the University of Illinois with a degree in electrical engineering, Frank was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1963, serving for two years in Yuma, AZ, before he was honorably discharged. In 1965, he was employed by Lockheed Missiles and Space in Sunnyvale, CA, returning to the Midwest after three years, where he worked the rest of his professional career at the Illinois Department of Transportation.
