Frank E. Garbacz, 99, of West Chicago, died January 23, 2019 at home. Born in Chicago. Frank was a veteran of WWII having served in the army in France, Germany, and Belgium, arrived at Utah Beach Normandy with the
second wave of troops on D39, and at the Battle of the Bulge. He was a Sergeant and a Surgical Technician in the 48th Field hospital. He received his medical training at Fort Harrison. Frank received 3 Battle Stars and over seas service bars. Frank received a good conduct medal, a WWII victory medal, American Campaign medal, and European-African- Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon w/4 Bronze stars. Frank was a Field Leader in the Civilian Conservation Corps and contributed to improvements in the Grand Teton National Park. Frank climbed to the Summit in 1939 and was able to view his signature in the registry 60 years later. Frank graduated from the American Television Institute of Technology, with a Bachelor of Science in Television Engineering. He was an employee of Western Electric for over 30 years. Bicycling, gardening, canning, football games and Sudoko puzzles were his favorite. He never missed a Cubs game or a Bears game. He enjoyed family time and visiting with his neighbors. Beloved Papo of Michelle (Keith) Wilcox and extra special uncle of Christine (Daniel) Toomey, Lawrence (Julia) Grabowski, and the late Leonard Grabowski; kind uncle-in-law of Marina Grabowski; loving grandpa of Neil, Marie (Tyler), Matthew and Mitchell; cherished great grandpa of T.J.; caring son of the late Peter Garbacz and Mary Chorzempa and kind brother of the late Julie, Marion, Peter, Paul, Joseph, Eleanor, Agnes and Michael; great uncle to Jennifer, Lisa, Michael, Louis, Annie and Nicole; great great uncle to Katie, Brittney, Graham, Grace; and fond uncle to many. Visitation Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Countryside Funeral Home, 950 South Bartlett Rd, Bartlett from 11:00am until time of prayers 1:15 pm going to Resurrection Catholic Church, Mass 2:00 p.m. Interment St Adalbert.
