Ernie Lakics

Ernie I. Lakics, 75, of Roselle died September 5, 2025 after a long battle with cancer. Ernie was the only child of Anna and Frank Lakics; beloved husband of Susan Lakics for 42 years; loving father of Joshua (Nicole) and Matthew (Jessica); proud grandfather of Piper and Halle.
Ernie and his late parents came through Ellis Island from Hungary in search of the American Dream. He was a proud millwright and union member for many years.
Ernie was very fond of animals, often offering his time to pick up dogs across different states or helping empty food trucks to ensure adoption groups had necessary supplies. He had a green thumb which included growing vegetables from seed and overseeing a large garden yearly. Ernie was a big Chicago sports fan (mostly Cubs, Bears, and Bulls), but also shared his love of coaching teams his sons were a part of.
Ernie loved tinkering with items and was a master of putting things together. He also was known for his ability to help with anything when called upon. He truly would give his shirt off his back for anyone who needed it.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
