It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Ernesto C. Escanilla, also lovingly called Erning, who departed this world on Monday, March 9, 2026. Born on Sunday, September 19, 1943, he lived a life full of passion, adventure, music, faith, and devotion to his family.
Ernesto served as a diligent and dedicated Liaison Officer. He was also a passionate supporter of his community, earning the respect of his constituents while serving several terms in Manila’s local government. He was known for helping everyone in need, even people in different countries. He never met anyone he could not befriend. He was a man of faith, never missing a day of his prayer group at Hope For the World International Ministries, Inc. His musical prowess was legendary. He was a founding member of Nel and the Five Jacks in the 1960s, entertaining large crowds during fiestas. In his later years, he gave his musical talents to his local church’s praise and worship team along with his daughters. Ernesto had a deep passion for music; he sang, played guitar, and bongos, bringing joy to all those around him. He never had a karaoke score lower than 90 percent.
Ernesto was the beloved husband of Genelda, with whom he shared nearly 65 wonderful years of marriage. Their partnership was a testament to enduring love and commitment, rivaling the greatest love stories only seen in movies. He was a devoted father to Arnold (Elsie) Escanilla, Jovy (Francis) Reyes, and Cecilia (Edwin) Vidal, who cherished his guidance and support throughout their lives.
His grandchildren, Madelaine (Jean), Brian (Lyn), Franz, Lester, Krizelda (Sean), Ivan, Patrick, Alyssa, and his great-grandchildren Brix, Chloe, Brent, and Michael, will always remember him as a wonderful grandfather who brought laughter, stories, memories, and wisdom into their lives. His beloved dog, Barker, will also remember his grandpa, who never left home without him. Ernesto was preceded in death by his loving parents, Generoso and Concepcion Escanilla, and his daughter, Jovy, who he now joins in eternal peace.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 9:00 am until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 am at Countryside Funeral Home, 333 S. Roselle Rd. Roselle, IL. Interment Union Cemetery, St. Charles, IL.
He touched the lives of many with his gentle nature and musical spirit, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Though he will be greatly missed, Erning’s spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
May he rest in eternal peace.
