Ermalinda Fiereck

Ermalinda “Linda” Anna Fiereck died peacefully June 6, 2024, in Bartlett, IL at the age of 93.
Linda was born October 30, 1930, in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Joseph and Anna (Notch) Fiereck. Linda was stricken with polio as a child but did not let its lasting effects prevent her from achieving her goals. She received her bachelor’s degree from the College of St. Benedict (St. Joseph, MN.) After graduating, she worked for several years in Bismarck, ND. Linda returned to school and received her Master of Science degree in Biochemistry from The University of Iowa. Linda worked at Mt. Sinai Hospital Medical Center in Chicago, IL as a chemist for over 30 years. Linda was a published author and educator. She wrote numerous scientific papers and collaborated on several textbooks.
Linda resided in Wheaton, IL for most of her adult life. She was very proud of her home that was filled with her unique collections of art, antiques, books, butterflies, handmade latch hooked rugs, and her beloved paperweights.
Although Linda was not blessed with children, she transferred that love to her 19 nieces and nephews and their children. She established the Ermalinda Fiereck Spanish Scholarship Program to encourage her great nieces and nephews to learn a foreign language.
Linda is survived by her sisters Joan Spoden and Jannette Schlichting, 18 nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents, sisters Bernice Fiedler, Iola Fiereck and Annette Dwenger, infant brothers Joseph and Nathaniel, four brothers-in-law and her nephew David Schlichting.
Linda will be laid to rest in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to

as Linda was an avid reader and loved to give books as presents to children in her life.
