Elizabeth Villella

December 23, 1934 — July 29, 2023

Elizabeth Ann Villella, or Betty as most knew her, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at age 88. She was born in Elgin, IL on December 23,1934 and was the daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth Ostdick. She was a sister to Rita, Jim, Jean, Chuck, and Fran. She was married to the late Edward Villella for 53 years, and raised four children, Joe (Conni), Susan, Nancy (Joe), and David (Tony). She was grandma to Sheree (Brian), Kristen (Mike), Joseph, Nicholas (Hannah), Emma (Jake), Grace (Dylan) and Kevin Kellish. She was also great grandma, or “Great Betty,” to Naomi, Kennedy, Lily, Avery, and Bryer.

She was a long-time resident of South Elgin and attended Saint Mary’s Catholic Church. Betty graduated Saint Edwards High School and then went into Saint Charles Hospital School of Nursing in Aurora, IL. She graduated in 1957 as a Registered Nurse and worked in various fields throughout her career including oral surgery, obstetrics, and pediatrics.

Betty was a strong woman who held those around her up for most of her life. She was the neighborhood nurse, caregiver, the “go to” for everyone around. She patched up neighbors and their pets, threw choking kids over her knee on the front lawn many times, and solved problems for everyone she knew. She was a Jacqueline of all trades. She stitched family and friends, clothing, and furniture. If a repair person came into the house, she was over their shoulder taking note so that she could do it herself next time. She was Betty Crocker, athlete, inducted into the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame for speed skating, she was coach and cheerleader to many, carpenter, seamstress, plumber, and so much more. Her famous words were, “I can do that.”
