Edwin Minard

Edwin L. Minard Jr, 74, passed peacefully in his home in Elgin on Thursday, July 21, 2016. He was born on March 6, 1942 in Willamantic, CT. He was the oldest of three children.

Edwin graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from St. Louis University and a Master of Science from Iowa State University. He also attended the College of Veterinary medicine at Iowa State where he received his veterinary degree. He was a member of the Honor Society of Veterinary Medicine, Gamma Chapter, Phi Zeta. Dr. Minard was a veterinarian in Elgin for over 30 years. It was his honor to serve the families of the Fox Valley and he will be forever grateful for the trust they bestowed upon him. His greatest pleasure in life was to care for family pets and educate their owners.

Dr. Minard is survived by his wife, Katherine, a sister Trudy (Keith) Oberbeck, and four children, Sara Minard, David Minard, Heather Zimmerman and Shawn (Misty) Zimmerman. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Sienna Morrison, Erich and Ethan Zimmerman. In addition to his parents, Edwin and Elizabeth, he was preceded in death by his brother, David.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made to an animal shelter, animal rescue or animal charity of your choice. Memorials may also include St. Louis University or LBDA. Services were private at the Countryside Funeral Home & Crematory.
