Douglas Gardner

Douglas “Doug” James Gardner, 88, of Elgin, passed away peacefully December 21, 2015. Doug was the beloved husband of Patsy, loving father of the late Douglas Gardner, Jr.; cherished stepfather of Sarah (John) Graff, Scott (Cindy) Roberts, Staci (Clyde) Bumgarner, and Sheri Roberts; proud step grandfather of 16; loving step great grandfather of 13; and fond uncle of lots of nieces and nephews.

An Army veteran Doug served as a Private 1st Class in WWII from July 1945 until January 1947 and reenlisted to serve as a Sergeant in Korea from March 1951 until February 1954. He was a member of the South Elgin VFW Post 2327, and the Elgin American Legion Post 57. Doug retired from Eagle Food after 28 years of service in October 1986 and worked at the Elgin Police Department as a crossing guard after.

Memorial visitation December 29, 10:00a.m. until the time of memorial service 11:30a.m. at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory 95 S. Gilbert Street (at State Street) South Elgin. Inurnment South Elgin Cemetery. Cremation took place privately at Countryside Crematory. In lieu of flowers donations to Community United Methodist Church 400 W. Spring Street, South Elgin, IL 60177 or Family Health Home Health Services 2171 Executive Drive, Suite 450 Addison, Illinois 60101 would be appreciated.
