Douglas Buczkowski, (89) passed away on June 9, 2024, in the comfort of his long-time family home in Bartlett IL.
Douglas went by many names in his long rich life: Husband, Pops, Uncle, and Grandpa to name a few. He was the beloved patriarch of his family and touched the lives of many friends and acquaintances. He was a family man first, a lifelong Cubs and Bears fan, a sharp pool player, and a heck of a pinochle player. He would often speak of his family as his greatest achievement and satisfaction in life. Clever with his wit, sharp with his tongue, and wickedly funny. He was curious, loved to travel, work on his yard, and read the daily papers. He could also burst into a song, do a funny impression, or start a new business venture in a moment’s notice. He held true to his convictions and lived life the way he chose to live it.
He was born on November 8, 1934, on the hardscrabble streets of the west side of Chicago to Al and Lee Buczkowski. He is the second to last surviving members of his immediate family: Don (Don Jr), Darline Pearson, Danny- living (Dan Jr), and Darrell. He attended Lane Tech High School, then joined the army and served overseas for 2 years. Shortly after being discharged, he reconnected with the love of his life and future wife for the next 63 years, Carol Cesario. Their 5 children, spouses, and 7 grandchildren will always remember and love him: Dawn Wyszynski (Gloria, Veronica, Lucas, Estelle), Darin (Franklin, Leo) and Vicki Trevino, Dane and Aya (Drake), David and Jill Unze, and Dina. Sally Allen (Cindy, Gina, Donna) the Cesario sisters, great nieces and nephews, pool hall buddies, and family friends all held a special place in his heart.
His courage, determination, flexibility, stubbornness, and fatherly guidance will be greatly missed. “
For what is a man, what has he got? If not himself, then he has naught”… he can truly say he did it his way.
Funeral services will be held Monday June 17, 2024 at Resurrection Catholic Church, 30W350 Army Trail Rd, Wayne IL. Visitation is at 9:30-10:30am. Memorial mass is at 10:30-11:30am. Cremation was private at the Countryside Crematory. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
