Dora E. Spangler
of Streamwood
Dora Elizabeth Spangler, 88, passed away March 3, 2012 at Tower Hill Healthcare Center in South Elgin, IL.
She was born January 19, 1924 in Battle Creek, MI the daughter of Elwood and Lenore (LePré) MacDonald. In the mid 1940’s Dora moved to Chicago to attend the Art Institute where she met her husband to be, fellow student, Morris Spangler. They married on February 14, 1948 and lived in Chicago until 1958, when they moved, with two kids in tow, into their first home in Streamwood.
While working full time, Dora helped her new community grow by working tirelessly with School District U-46 to bring more schools to the village. Active with the PTA while her children were in school, she later volunteered as a Reading Grandma at her local elementary school after she retired in 1986. An engaged social individual, she loved to entertain and to cook and bake; among her friends and neighbors, her lemon meringue pie was legendary.
She is survived by her children Scott (Kathi) Spangler of Omro, WI and Lisa (Rusty) Winchel of South Elgin, IL; grandchildren Patrick (Jeannie Butzow) Sampson of Streamwood, IL, Drew Sampson of Berlin, Germany, Braden (Brittney Peyton) Spangler and Kyle Spangler of Kansas City, MO; step-grandchildren Tom, Rob and Phil Pinkasavage and their families: two great grandsons, Ayden Sampson and Jackson Spangler; honorary daughter Trish Powers and her family of Bedford, TX; and many long-time friends. We love you Bubbles, you’ll be missed.
In addition to her parents Dora was preceded in death by her husband, Morris, on April 26, 2008 and her sister, Ada Jones.
There will be no public service; a private burial at Bluff City Cemetery is planned for later in the spring. Arrangements are being handled by Countryside Funeral Homes & Crematory of South Elgin, 847-289-8054.
