Streamwood

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Donald W. Nordtvedt, a cherished father, grandfather, educator, and avid collector. Donald was born on October 17, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, and passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at the age of 84. He was a long-time resident of Streamwood, IL.

Don is survived by his ex-wife Nancy, his devoted children Linda Nordtvedt (Bob Schweitzer) and Eric Nordtvedt, and his beloved grandchildren, Alayna and Jake. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Nordtvedt and Viola Hamilton, his brother Kenneth Jr. (Margarita) Nordtvedt, and his sister Judy Nordtvedt.

Don was a proud alumnus of the University of Illinois, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in education, and Northern Illinois University, where he completed his Master's degree. As a dedicated Social Studies teacher, he spent 34 years shaping young minds at Ridgewood High School. After his retirement, he continued to serve his community faithfully as a census worker and election judge.

Away from work, Don found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was a movie enthusiast who looked forward to the weekend so he could watch the newest releases. He also loved dining out, whether it was discovering new restaurants in the area or enjoying old favorites, particularly burger and pizza places, and Mexican food.

A man of diverse interests, Don was passionate about collecting stamps, music, newspaper clippings and history books. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs, and he cherished the memory of attending a Cubs World Series game. His heart was also devoted to the Illini basketball and football teams. A passionate political enthusiast, Don loved to travel, especially on memorable family road trips to Washington D.C. and California, and he fondly recounted his visit to the Berlin Wall shortly after its fall, proudly bringing a piece of history home with him.

Above all, Don treasured time with his family, especially attending his grandchildren's sports events and activities, which brought him immense joy.

Services are private. Don will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to education and the love and generosity he shared with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. For information, please contact Countryside Funeral Home & Crematory, 630-289-8054.
