Donald R. McClay, 92, of Elgin for over 60 years, was born October 1, 1923 and called home Sunday, February 7, 2016.
Donald was best known in the Fox Valley area as a cement contractor and square dance caller. In his early years he served as an officer for the Rural Youth Club in Kane and DuPage Counties and organized and called for many local square dances. He also farmed and helped manufacture and sell veal feed. As an Elgin businessman, he was actively involved in the Cosmopolitan Club of Elgin. He organized events for the Ross Perot campaign as well as events showcasing local music talents.
Beloved husband of 27 years and friend through eternity to the late Doris M. McClay(nee Rasmussen); loving father of Diane(the late John) Hickey, Deborah(Bob) Banker, and Dawn(James) McKeon; dear grandfather of Rachel(Andrew) Johnson, David(Tara) Hickey, Ian(fiancée Lauren Potter) Banker, Colin(Rachael) Banker, Price Davis, Jason Banker, Isaiah Wallace, Lindsay(Sam) Fong, and Shane(Teresa) Davis; proud great grandfather of Charlotte, Lainey Jo, Alayna, Hannah, Lila, June, Gia, Mitchell, and Miles. Dear son of the late Renzo and the late Dora(nee Riedlberger) McClay. Fond brother of the late Laurel(the late William) Hoyer and the late James(Ella) McClay.
Visitation Thursday, February 25 from 5:00pm until time of service 7:00pm at the Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory 95 S. Gilbert St.(at State St.), South Elgin.
