She is the beloved mother of George (Carmie) Hanley, Mike (Tina) Hanley and Sandy (Bob) MacDonald; cherished grandmother of George (Lisa) Hanley, Joseph Hanley, Lauren Hanley, Jeremy Cook, Matthew Hanley , Patrick and Colleen MacDonald; proud great grandmother of Ella, George and Logan; dear sister of Josephine (Paraic) Dolan and Mary Helena (the late Martin) Tigue; fond Aunt of Martin, Tomas, Mary and Della.
Delia had a special and amazing relationship with everyone who knew her. She raised her 3 children to be wonderful adults who then, married and created their own families giving Delia 7 grandchildren. Grandma (Delia) meant the world to them. Delia has 3 great-grandchildren who simply adore their "Oma".
She had a huge impact on many lives. She was a volunteer for St. Vincent DePaul for the last 10+ years. She helped people who needed support through collaborating home visits and assisting those in need. She deeply loved talking to the people she helped and hearing their stories. Prior to that she retired from Vencor hospital where she worked for may years in the business office.
She had a love for a hot cup of tea, and an incredible knack for baking, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. You know you had a special place in her heart if you got a pair of handmade slipper from her for Christmas. She also took the time to knit/crochet a blanket to welcome a child, or to celebrate your home. She celebrated her Irish heritage by baking delicious soda bread(with raisins) and sharing it with her family.
Delia was the center of attention at every gathering of family and friends. Her kind spirit drew you to her and made you want to want to sit, talk, and laugh with her for hours. Her "cackling" laugh came from deep inside her. It will continue to make us smile and laugh, as those memories have lovingly adhered to our heart and soul.
There are several family members that we have lost over the years that we know are meeting Delia with open arms. They along with our beloved Delia look down upon us as our guardian angels. There are close family members in Ireland that will be unable to celebrate Delia's life with us. We know that they will be praying with us that God has taken her and has wonderful plans for her, with Him.
