Dawn Kathleen Jacobsen went Home to the Lord on October 17, 2023, at age 71 after battling early onset dementia the past years.
Dawn was born to Roy & Carol Gromke on February 23, 1952 in Oak Park, IL and grew up in Chicago.
She met the love of her life, Carl Norman Jacobsen (Norm) at Bethel Community Church while in high school. They were married on October 3, 1970 and enjoyed 53 years of marriage. Together, they were blessed with two daughters, Heather and Heidi, and lived in northwest Chicagoland suburbs their entire lives.
Dawn loved being with her family and celebrating any special day or event. She was always behind a camera taking pictures to document the moments that were so special to her. She consistently also ‘encouraged’ Norm to do the same to have double documentation of those special moments. For Dawn, if one picture was good, 20 was better.
She enjoyed raising the girls and going to all their different events. She was especially excited to help plan and organize their weddings. She was also thrilled to welcome 5 grandchildren to her life and loved time spent with them.
She was forever involved in making special and personalized gifts for those around her from photograph ornaments to crocheted blankets to needlepoint pillows to holiday quilts. There was not a craft she didn’t enjoy doing and loved to make special items for others. She enjoyed teaching anyone who wanted to learn how to create something as a keepsake. Many will miss her patient and kind words of support as they learned to craft.
Dawn is survived by her loving husband Norm and wonderful daughters, Heather Jacobsen (Anthony Calamia) and Heidi Calamia and grandchildren, AJ, Cal, Maya, Nicholas and Sofia. She is also survived by her mother Carol Gromke, her siblings Melody (Russ) Berg, Renee Deetjen and Roy (Janice) Gromke Jr. and many nieces and nephews.
Dawn is preceded in death by her father, Roy and her son-in-law, Robert Calamia Jr.
