David Schmitz

March 10, 1958 — October 21, 2012

David E. Schmitz, 54, of Bartlett died Sunday, October 21, 2012 at home surrounded by his family after a courageous 2 1/2 year battle with Melanoma. Born at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan, WI to Sylvester and Delphine. David grew up with his parents and siblings on a farm in Kiel, WI.
David enjoyed auto racing at Road America. He loved to drive and care for his yellow Pontiac GTO, but his real love was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends. He was a passionate man who cared deeply for not only his wife and friends, but his customers and all that entered his life. David was a natural philanthropist; charity was always near and dear to his heart whether it was donating his time, effort or monetary gifts, he was always there for anyone who needed it.
David started his career at Stoelting Manufacturing in Kiel. He later moved to Illinois and owned a refrigeration repair business as well as the famous Dairy Queen. David had a gift like no other, he was known as the guy who could “fix anything”. This gift, combined with his honesty, integrity, and genuine concern for others ultimately enabled him to build his own commercial refrigeration service company, Kool Technologies of Streamwood. He enjoyed taking care of his customers and setting a good example for his employees (who have become family). He has been known by his customers as “Alpine Dave”, “Kool Dave”, and “Ice Cream Dave”. Beloved husband of Kristine (nee Bond); loving father of Tyler Schmitz , Dustin (Kayla) Hegreberg, Brianna (Zach) Wise and the late Jessica; proud papa of Madisyn, Mia, Haylee and Troy; cherished son of Delphine (nee Klapperich) and the late Sylvester; dear brother of Brian, Betty (Nels) Nelson, Judy (Wayne) Roller and Nancy (Chuck) Buchman; uncle of many nieces and nephews. Visitation Wednesday, October 24th at the Countryside Funeral Home & Crematory, 950 South Bartlett Rd., Bartlett, 3-8 p.m. with a non-denominational service at 8:00 p.m. A Catholic Funeral Service will be held Thursday, October 25th, 10:00 a.m. at the funeral homes. Burial Bartlett Cemetery. Our David will never be forgotten and will live forever in our hearts.
