David James Martin passed away unexpectedly at the age of 59 on the morning of November 2nd, 2021.
David loved God with all of his heart, mind, and strength. This love was evident in the way that he lived his life and cared for the people around him. He was an amazing husband, father, friend, son, brother, and uncle. To know David was to be blessed by someone who showed up and cared for you in some of the most practical and intentional of ways.
He was born in Elgin, IL to Shirley and James Martin on March 26, 1962 and was a life-long resident of South Elgin. He served as a volunteer firefighter for the South Elgin Fire Department for four years while working as a mechanic at his father’s service station, also in South Elgin. He did this until taking a full-time position with South Elgin Public Works Department, where he worked for 32 years. David loved being able to use his gifts and skills to serve his community.
He and his wife, Melissa, were married for 30 years. He loved his family and the opportunities he had to enjoy fishing, boating, hunting, going on motorcycle rides, or simply enjoying a meal together. He was known for both his servant-heart and for having a wealth of skills and insight and was always the first call when his kids or friends had questions or problems.
David was preceded in death by his father, James Martin; brother, Jack Martin; and child, Jesse Erin.
He is survived by his wife Melissa; his mother, Shirley Martin; his siblings: Cathy (Bernie), Denise (Ed) Jones, and (Deb Martin); his children: Stefanie (Scott) Belrichard, Kyle (Jess) Martin, Amanda, Megan, James, Rachel, Joshua, Christina, Jacob, Jonathan and Elizabeth Martin; and his grandchildren, Carter, Audrey, and Wesley. David was also excited to meet his fourth grandchild, who is due to be born at the end of this month.
While the family and friends he leaves behind are grieving over their loss, they take hope in knowing that he is with the Lord.
