David Marcus

David P. Marcus, 79, passed away October 11, 2022 with family by his side.
Dave, as many friends called him, was born March 12, 1943 to Sol and Fannie [Cohen] Marcus in Chicago, Illinois.

Young Dave spent his time playing sports and running around the alleyways on Talman Ave in Roger's Park with his younger twin siblings Bill Marcus and Susan Marcus. After graduating from Senn High School, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree of Arts from Loyola University. He later earned his Masters Degree in history from Northern Illinois University as well as a Masters Degree in social work from University of Illinois Chicago. He spent the majority of his career working as a forensics unit social worker at Elgin Mental Health Center.

His generous nature and gentle disposition allowed him to be a successful social worker. However, his true gift was his devotion and love to his family. Married to his late wife Marcia Lynn Marcus [Olson], he counted himself the luckiest man to find such a love in his life. Together, they raised two daughters, Laura Abernethy (Seth) and Amanda Curry (Ryan).

David has always been an intellect and eclectic thinker, dabbling in ideas from supernatural to worldly news to stock market trends. He enjoyed listening and playing music, as well as country line dancing and concerts on the weekend. He enjoyed writing short stories, original songs, and poetry. To aid in his love of history, he was also an avid historical book collector.

One of Dave’s biggest passions was people. Not only did he devote his work life to helping patients, he enjoyed talking, listening, and coming up with original jokes with his friends. Still he valued family above all. As young Dave evolved into older Dave, his family grew and Dave transformed into "Baba". His strong connections with his grandchildren; Adelynn, Elliana and Ava Abernethy as well as Kade and Steele Curry were his newest muses. Our family has found comfort in his reunion with God and his beloved wife. We will always value the love and unselfish sacrifices that he modeled.
