A Memorial Service for David Howard Madsen, 72, of Schaumburg will be held Saturday, October 23, 2021 1:00p.m. at Immanuel United Church of Christ 1500 Old Church Rd. Streamwood.
David peacefully passed away on Sunday April 5, 2020. David was born April 22, 1947, in Chicago, IL, the son of Eleanor and Howard Madsen. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1964. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1968 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education. He received his Master’s Degree in 1969 from Western Illinois University. He served in the US Army from 1969-1971 and received his Ph.D. in 1977 from Indiana State University. He spent his entire working career working in the field of psychological test publishing, working for the Institute for Personality and Ability Testing, Stoelting Publishing Company and Riverside Publishing Company. He served as an adjunct faculty member at Indiana State University, Westwood College and Elgin Community College. He also served on several committees within the Illinois Conference of the United Church of Christ as well as leadership roles at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Streamwood, Illinois and St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Champaign, IL.
Dave is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Katherine (Philip) Groth of Chicago, Jennifer (William) Traversa of Schaumburg, two grandsons, Fritz and Curtis Groth, one granddaughter, Brianna Traversa, his sister, Kris (Brad) Lohnes, his sister-in-law, Kay Hulin and brother-in-law, Randy (Karen) Warner and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eleanor and Howard Madsen and his parents-in-law, Robert and Lucille Warner.
Dave was a strong, caring man with a great sense of humor and a love of telling stories. He loved fishing, the Chicago Cubs and of course, his Northwestern Wildcats. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to Immanuel UCC in Streamwood, IL or to Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, MS.
Funeral services are private and there will be a celebration of life service planned at a later date.
