Daniel Roger Sarna, passed away on May 15, 2026, at the age of 75. After a brief and courageous illness, Dan passed away peacefully at home surrounded by love.
Born on August 25, 1950, in Chicago, Dan lived a life defined by adventure, loyalty, love for family, and deep connection with the people around him.
Dan graduated from Evergreen Park High School before proudly serving his country with the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. He carried immense pride in serving alongside his brothers in arms. After returning home, he earned his Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree from University of Illinois Chicago in 1976.
Dan was a hard worker with an adventurous spirit. He joined Computer Sciences Corporation during its early years and went on to become a proud partner in the firm. His career allowed him to travel the world, and one of his greatest joys was sharing that love of exploration and adventure with his family.
Outside of work, Dan was a passionate sailor, martial artist, lifelong learner, loyal friend, and devoted Chicago Bears fan. He loved being on the water, telling stories, cheering on his teams, playing golf with Tyler and Logan, chasing The Angels (Livi and Bodie) around the house and talking hockey strategy with Jen. In retirement, Dan discovered a new passion of providing tours in Frank Lloyd Wright and the Edison/Ford Estates. He formed friendships lasting multiple decades, a testament to the loyalty and care he brought into people’s lives.
More than any professional accomplishment, Dan’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He was the proud father of three children and lovingly embraced Kirsty as his adopted daughter. He absolutely thrived in his role as “Pa” and “Pop” to his beloved grandchildren. Nothing made him happier than chasing them around the yard, hooting and hollering with laughter, and soaking in every moment together. He was endlessly proud of his family and their accomplishments and remained their biggest cheerleader throughout life.
Dan shared his three children with Debbie Brown and later found deep companionship and love with his wife Brenda, who lovingly called him “Prince,” while he affectionately called her “Treasure,” celebrating 30 beautiful years together this year.
While standing strong as a Veteran and father who "always had your six", Dan never stopped loving deeply or expressing that love openly and often. His family will remember his adventurous heart, booming laughter, steadfast presence, and the countless ways he made those around him feel loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Irene Sarna.
He is survived by his wife Brenda; his children, Jason (Ashley) Sarna, Jackie “Love Bug” (Brian) Dougherty, Jen Herdina, and Kirsty (Nathan) Unwin; his cherished grandchildren, Boden, Liviya, Tyler, Logan, Alton, and Winnie; brother David Sarna; and many dear friends and extended family members who will miss him deeply.
A private celebration of life service is scheduled.
