Dr. Christine Sutton, 93, of Wayne, died Sunday, October 9, 2022. Beloved wife of the late Simon Thomas the V; loving mom of Marcy (Peter) Menke, Thomas (Erica) Sutton the VI, and Giles Sutton; cherished grandma of Corinne (Bryan) Fitzgerald, Kelsey (Xavier Stiles) Menke, Tommy Sutton the VlI and Stephen Sutton; dear great grandma of Owen, Lily, Ezra, Norah and Lewis; caring daughter of the late Stanley and Marcella (Goldeck) Bickness and kind sister of the late Jerome Bickness.
Christine was born and raised in Chicago, attending both Loyola and Northwestern Universities. She graduated in 1958 with a Doctor of Medicine (MD) in dermatology and was the only woman in her class. She was on the teaching staff at Northwestern University Medical Center, a Diplomat of the American Academy of Dermatology and had offices in both Barrington and Elmhurst.
A long time member of Park Manor Bible Chapel, she was actively involved in Bible studies, prayer meetings and served on the hospitality committee for many years. She was involved in community and charitable causes such as the Friends of the St. Charles Library and served on the boards of Donka, Inc. and Friendship Village of Schaumburg.
Christine enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, sewing, and taking road-trips to historic sites. A very generous person, she was always helping family, friends, patients and even strangers in any way she could.
Devotion to her family was evident in the countless hours she spent reading and playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, always encouraging their curiosity and imagination. She attended numerous dance recitals, baseball games and other special activities, always supporting each ones’ special interests and talents.
Christine was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by family and friends alike. We share her firm conviction that “nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39) and cling to Jesus’ promise “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand” (John 10:28).
Private burial arrangements have been made at Mt. Carmel Cemetery and a memorial service will be held in the spring of 2023.
