Charles Peterson

Prayers for Charles A. Peterson, Sr. of Roselle will begin 9:15a.m. Wednesday at the Countryside Funeral Home 333 S. Roselle Rd. Roselle and proceed to St. Walter Catholic Church. Mass 10:00a.m. Interment St. Michael the Archangel.

Visitation will be held Tuesday 3:00 – 9:00p.m. at the funeral home.

Charles was born October 5, 1928 in Oak Park, IL and passed away Friday September 18, 2009 at Manor Care, Elk Grove, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Susanne Peterson, sons Andrew (Debra) of Atlanta, Daniel of Roselle, Charles of Aurora, Patrick (Anna) of Versailles, KY and grandchildren Kitt, Kinsey and Katieanne.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Margaret and a sister Lois Smith.

Charles was a graduate of St. Genevieve grade school, Foreman High School and the University Of Illinois Champaign/Urbana College Of Commerce. He was a veteran of the US Army Signal Corps during the Korean Conflict.

He was a 33 year employee and retiree of Western Electric Hawthorne plant, and was chosen to spend 21 months in the Arctic as part of the government’s post war security project constructing the DEW (Distant Early Warning System) around the Arctic Circle.

A 50 year active member of St. Walter Parish, Roselle, having served as school board president, fundraiser volunteer, Cursillo, and 50 year church usher.

In 1988 he and his wife founded the Elk Grove/Schaumburg chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness and volunteered his time to provide recreation for clients receiving mental health services.
