Charles Luce

September 9, 1950 — July 5, 2024

Master Sergeant Charles (Chuck/Skeeter) Luce Sr. went home to be with the lord on July 5th, 2024. He left this earth doing one of things he did so well, taking care of his mother. God decided that Skeeter’s big, loving heart needed a rest while he was out picking up donuts for his mother’s (Dolores) 96th birthday.

He was born in Chicago on September 9th, 1950. Raised a stone's-throw from Wrigley Field, he shockingly hated the Cubs and the Bears. As a Rams fan, he would antagonize his family on any given Sunday when they cheered on the Bears. But he antagonized his family the other six days a week as well! As a consummate teaser, he had a special way of making everyone laugh. His children, Chuck Luce Jr. (Courtney), Shannon Biundo (Tony), Nicole Luce, and Adam  Luce (Danielle) all inherited his wonderful sense of humor and prankster ways, which were naturally passed on to him by his late father, Cecil Luce and shared by his brother who has also passed, Bob Luce.

Skeeter wasn’t just a jokester. Married for over 51 years to the love of his life Nancy (Mutert), he was a loving and dedicated husband who enjoyed evenings at home with his wife playing cribbage. He met Nancy at Illinois Turner Camp where they spent many summer days with friends and family hanging out at the A field or playing bocce ball. Spurred by his involvement in ROTC at Lake View High School in Chicago, he was a proud and loyal serviceman. He served his country for 20 years all over the world, from Japan to Germany, retiring as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force. He was also very active in several Catholic church ministries in the various states and countries they lived, most recently attending St. John’s the Evangelist Catholic Church in Streamwood where he resided. Finally, he was the most dedicated grandfather, always attending his grandchildren’s Annamae (Kaitlyn), Payton, Ashley, Gabby, Zack, and Elli events and games. While he was recently undergoing cancer treatments, beating cancer for the fourth time, he wasn’t always able to attend the events. He would still follow along on online apps, commenting via text from afar “Your team really needs to change out their pitcher!”

He will be remembered by all of his family, extended family, and friends for his huge heart, his warm smile and laughter, his playfulness, and for how badly he beat us all at cards. If you were lucky enough to be his spades partner, it was going to be a good night for you.
