Charles Dunning

January 14, 1947 — January 13, 2025

Charles Kent Dunning, age 77, passed away in hospice care near his home in Bartlett, IL, on Monday, January 13, 2025.

Chuck was born the only child of Hazel Endthoff Dunning and Donald Dunning of Brandon, Wisconsin. Chuck grew up in various cities in Wisconsin and Iowa, where his father worked for the Milwaukee Railroad and was relocated many times for work advancement. Chuck graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and furthered his education at Marshalltown Community College in Marshalltown, Iowa.

As an adult, Chuck settled in Chicago, Illinois, where he met his beloved wife of 49 years, Margaret (Maggie), at a volleyball game in Lincoln Park in Chicago. They were married on July 12, 1975. They made their home in Bartlett, Illinois, raising their family there. During his life, Chuck worked for the Milwaukee Railroad, just like his father. They both loved the railroad atmosphere and made it their lifelong hobby to model railroading, working together for many years on their endeavors. For a short time, Chuck owned and operated the Bartlett Depot, a small hobby shop in downtown Bartlett. Chuck continued his hobby of model railroading until his death. He also loved traveling to his favorite areas, the Smoky Mountains and Colorado, and he was always searching for that perfect retirement home with a huge basement for his layout.

Chuck is survived by his devoted wife, Maggie, his son, Andrew, and two grandchildren, Marley and Wyatt. He is preceded in death by his parents.
