Carol Joan Fringer Albright
November 21, 1938 – April 29, 2026
Carol Albright, age 87, of Elgin, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on April 29, 2026. Carol leaves behind a legacy of shared joy, award-winning treats, and a deep devotion to her family.
Carol was born on November 21, 1938, in La Jara, Colorado, to Noble Fringer and Hansel Wilson. She was one of eight siblings spent her early years in Colorado before moving to Alden, Illinois, and eventually settling in Elgin.
It was while working at Borden Foods that Carol met the love of her life, Gordon Albright. The two were married in 1960 and shared 63 beautiful years of marriage until Gordon’s passing in 2023. Together, they raised four children and built a life centered on family, travel, and community.
Carol was a familiar and friendly face in the Elgin school system, working in the lunchrooms at Columbia Elementary and Larsen Junior High. She later dedicated many years of service to St. Joseph Hospital, where she eventually retired.
Never one to shy away from a challenge, Carol was a lifelong learner. At the age of 45, she proudly completed her GED in 1984. In 1990, she decided to tackle two more personal goals: learning to swim and mastering the accordion.
In her retirement, Carol remained vibrant and active. she was a dedicated member of the Red Hat Society and Curves. She and Gordon were long-time season ticket holders at the Fireside Theater in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, and cherished their time traveling and attending performances. Sharing the joy, Carol would often go to a show again taking family and friends with her to see it.
Known for her "Thoughtful Baking," Carol’s kitchen was the heart of her home. She was famous for making extra batches of her award-winning cookies and cakes just to share with friends and neighbors. Whether she was excessively decorating her home for the holidays or handing out plates of sweets, Carol’s mission was always to bring happiness to others. Her nickname, "Fun"—inspired by a mini-golf scorecard—perfectly captured her spirit.
Carol is survived by her four children: Cynthia Albright (Charlie Lang), Thomas Albright, Jodie (Michael) Steele all of Elgin, Il and Steven (Karrie) Albright of Tampa, FL.
She was the proud grandmother to Alexander, Ian, Anna, Jenna (Madox) Reed, Colton, Crystal (Kevin) Dixon, Clay (Sara), and Great Grandsons Tyson and Joey. Carol is also survived by her sisters, Phyllis Burlingame and Shirley Zorbaugh, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gordon Albright; her parents, Noble and Hansel; and five of her siblings: Helen Farver, Irma Greiner, Leona Fringer, Kenneth Fringer, and Judy Pomazal.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carol’s honor to Elgin Senior Services, a place where she and Gordy shared many wonderful memories.
The world was a much more "Fun" place with Carol in it, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
