Bret Warren Mitchell, age 53, died peacefully in the arms of his wife on January 1, 2022. Bret was born on September 14, 1968 in Joliet, IL, later moving to South Elgin where he grew up. He graduated on Honor Roll from Larkin High School in 1986. He went on to complete a meat cutter and electrical apprenticeship. He was a very hard worker and took pride in every ounce of work he did. He was a proud IBEW Union 117 Electrician.

Bret’s favorite thing to do was spend time with his family. He also loved to stroll the isles of Home Depot, Farm and Fleet and of course any shoe store he could find. He also loved to go camping and planning our family getaways. In our house, he called himself the “grill master,” as he enjoyed grilling and cooking for his family and our gatherings. On a Monday, Thursday and Sunday night you could find him all showered and chilling on the couch watching a good ole game of football. Bret was a very fun loving man who loved to make everyone smile and laugh. Which he did so often with his “great” dance moves. His energy level was endless. His heart was full of love for all of his family, friends and the friends of his children. He always made everyone feel comfortable and welcome in our home.

Bret was a special son to Max and Tracy; a loving husband to Christin; a devoted dad to Danielle, Gavan, Brittany and Baylei; a brother to, Nanci(John), Jim(Eileen), Rick(Mike) and Kelli; a son-in-law to the late Charlotte and Kim(Jim); a brother-in-law to, Chris(Jackie) and Cassie; a supportive ex-husband to Julie(Mike), the mother of Gavan and Danielle; the cool Uncle to many; and a great friend.

Bret left a forever lasting impression on everyone he met. Visitation will be Friday January, 14, 2022 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory at 95 S. Gilbert St (at Middle St) in South Elgin. Cremation will be private at the Countryside Crematory.
