Bonnie L. Gertz, 81, of Streamwood, IL passed away on May 29, 2024 with her two sons at her side after battling a health issue. Bonnie was born on May 22, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri to Charles and Grace Denniston. The Denniston family relocated to Illinois where Bonnie met her beloved late husband Richard. Bonnie and Rich made a home in Streamwood where they raised their two sons David and Steven in a tight-knit community. The saying “it takes a village to raise a family” was a true sentiment for the Gertz family as it pertained to their lifelong best friends, the Knoth family (Lynn, Pat, Jeff, Lynda, Brian and Kevin) who lived across the street. Before too long, the Gertz’s and Knoth’s did everything together while raising their families. There are family members who are your friends, and in this case, the Knoth’s were friends that became family. They shared the best of times and worst of times together from working together, vacations, weddings and grandchildren to losing cherished loved ones. It is safe to say there is nothing they didn’t know about each other.
Bonnie loved her family dearly. Her oldest son David married Cammy and they gave Bonnie and Rich four grandchildren, Matthew, Jocelyn, Noah and Hunter. Steven and his wife Eileen added two more grandchildren, Caleigh and Lindsey. The family grew when her oldest grandson Matthew married his beautiful wife Megan and grew again more recently when she became a Great Grandma to Jameson, son of Noah and his girlfriend Skylar. Her family was the center of her universe and she wanted to know everything that was going on at all times. This did not only pertain to her family… Bonnie loved to be “in the know” of anything and everything from everyone she knew, and then some! She could talk for hours upon hours with anyone. If it wasn’t with Pat Knoth, it was with her sister-in-law Judy, Rich’s younger sister, with whom Bonnie had a very special friendship. Judy has been part of Bonnie’s life since she was 5 years old and was the flower girl at Bonnie and Rich’s wedding. Judy and her wife Lorri have been unwavering pillars of support to Bonnie over the years through thick and thin.
In her final days, Bonnie was surrounded by love and support from her family. She will be missed so much for her silliness, her “Bonnie-isms” – especially - whippy doo – hey now - shaky jake – ya know – it’s none of my business, and of course “that’s a bunch of crap!” Most of all, we will miss her love and smile that lit up each room.
