Betty L. Butler (nee Galloway) of Bartlett, formerly of Hanover Park; beloved wife of Robert F.; loving mother of Janice Kathryn (Philip DiGangi) Butler and David Frank (Terri Kimsey) Butler; cherished grandmother of Erika Lynn and Nicole Marie Butler; proud great grandmother of Braden Frank Butler; dear sister of Elaine Dostal and the late William, Kathy and Darrell Galloway.
Betty was born in Albia, Iowa to Floyd Dexter Galloway and Anna Fay Simon. She was the oldest daughter and second child of Floyd and Anna Fay. She was the Salutatorian of her high school class at Albia High School, and later graduated from Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in 1959. She married Robert Frank Butler on Aug. 20, 1960, and they had two children. They lived in Kansas City, Missouri for eight years, until they moved to Hanover Park, Illinois. They were residents of Hanover Park for 45 years. Betty worked as a pediatric nurse her entire career, including 23 years at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield.
Betty supported many charities, and actively raised funds for the American Diabetes Association. Bob and Betty were founding members of the Wee Scots Scottish Terrier collectors club, and also belonged to INTO Scotties. She enjoyed reading, and collected cook books. She devoted her life to her family. She was a volunteer school nurse at the elementary school, and she was a brownie leader. She drove her children to scout meetings, piano lessons and swimming lessons, and never missed a baton twirling, gymnastics, or cheerleading competition that her children or granddaughters were participating in. She always made a point to send cards to family and friends for birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. Often the cards were handmade. She loved her pets dearly, and cared for them with the same devotion she showed to her family.
She was strong and determined, and fought a decades-long battle with the consequences of diabetes, including loss of her kidneys, a leg amputation, blindness, heart disease, and skin cancer. She also survived breast cancer and dealt with very painful and debilitating osteoarthritis. Through it all she did not complain and she maintained her sense of humor. She continued to put the needs of others before her own.
