Barbara Steinke, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her residence in Shelbyville, TN, on Monday, November 24, 2025, at the age of 77. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Barbara lived in Hanover Park, IL for many years and filled her years with love, laughter, and countless memories shared with those she cherished most.
Barbara dedicated her professional career to numbers as a diligent and respected accountant. Her keen eye for detail served her well both professionally and in her many personal passions. She enjoyed scrapbooking and photo collecting, capturing precious moments in time, tending to her vibrant garden, and exploring new places, reflecting her adventurous spirit. Yet, her heart's greatest fulfillment was found in the company of her family and friends.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children, Jonathan (Marita) Studer, and Michele Steinke and step-children, Rosemary Steinke, Dennis (Tammy) Steinke, who all carry forward her warmth and wisdom. Barbara’s grandchildren, Nicole, Ashley, DJ, Jackie, Katie, Robbie, and Tyler, along with her four great-grandchildren, were the pride and joy of her life. She taught them the values of kindness and resilience, ensuring her spirit will continue to live on in their hearts.
Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband Dennis Steinke, devoted parents, Leo and Josephine Tock, and her loving siblings, Linda, Glen, and Leo, Jr., with whom she is now reunited.
A visitation to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory of Bartlett in Bartlett, IL. Funeral services will follow on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 10:00 am at the same location. Interment will follow at Bluff City Cemetery, Elgin, IL
Barbara Steinke will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched. Her memory and legacy live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to have known her.
