Art Sauceda

Art Sauceda was born on February 5, 1938, in Elgin, Illinois, to John and Jessie Sauceda. He married his beloved wife Sharon (nee Harms) on October 9, 1965. They moved to Bartlett in 1968 and were married for 49 years until her passing in 2014. He is survived by his daughter Lisa (Joe) Busto and his son Eric (Nicole) Sauceda. Art was extremely proud of his grandchildren Luke, Blake, Cameron, Ryan, Carson, Cade, Zach, and Paige. He is also survived by his brother Pete and many nieces and nephews. Art is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Sam, Alfredo, John, and his sister, Ann Pena.
Art graduated from St. Edward High School in Elgin in 1956. He is a member of the St. Edward High School Athletic Hall of Fame, starring in basketball and football. He is best remembered for his game winning buzzer beating shot in the 1956 State Playoffs beating state power Elgin High School. Art received a basketball athletic scholarship to the University of Wisconsin (Madison) and also to DePaul University. Art played three years of college basketball, earning one varsity letter and playing for the legendary coach Ray Meyer at DePaul. He graduated with a B.S. in accounting from DePaul University in 1962. He was a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), worked as an auditor for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in Elgin and Chicago, as well as for the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) in Chicago. He served as the Director of Internal Audit for Chicago Metropolitan Rail (METRA) from 1982 to 2003.
Art had a lifelong history of community service. He was elected to serve on the Board of Trustees at Elgin Community College, he was the past president of the Centro de Informacion, the treasurer for the Bartlett Learning Center, treasurer for the Presence St. Joseph Hospital Governing Board, member of the Bartlett Police Pension Board, president of the Club Guadalupano Scholarship Board, president of the St. Edward High School Foundation Board, Grand Knight of the Elgin Knights of Columbus, a member of the Harris Bank Board in Bartlett, and was past Chairman of the St. Joseph Catholic Church Finance Committee in Elgin. He was honored with numerous awards for his service to the community including 1994 St. Edward Alum of the Year.
Art was an avid golfer, he loved social outings, dinners with family and friends, playing cards, and traveling. He was a big sports fan, always watching his White Sox, Bulls, and Bears. His favorite pastime was watching his grandchildren play sports.
Visitation Sunday, May 22, 2022, at the Countryside Funeral Home & Crematory, 950 South Bartlett Rd., (at Stearns Rd.) Bartlett from 3:00pm - 8:00pm. Funeral Monday, May 23rd, beginning with prayers at the funeral home at 9:00 am and processing to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 272 Division St. Elgin. Mass 10:00 am. Interment Bartlett Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Art & Sharon Sauceda Scholarship Fund.
