Anthony Klama

Anthony "Tony" Francis Klama, age 81, of Hanover Park, Illinois went to be with his Heavenly Father on November 6th in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, father-in-law, grandfather, great-great grandfather, great-great-great grandfather, and cousin.

Tony was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1938 to the late Anthony T. Klama and Anna Mayer. Tony attended St. Raphael Catholic School in Chicago in the early 1950's. He enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 18. He then followed in his father's footsteps as a member of the United Order of American Bricklayers & Stone Masons. As a bricklayer, he worked on many of the skyscrapers in downtown Chicago, such as the First National Bank of Chicago building and the Standard Oil Building (known today as the Aon Center). From an early age, Tony manifested an aptitude for art, and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago.

He and Penelope (Penny) -- nee Fox-Kolk -- were blessed with 42 years of marriage. During that time, they loved to travel the world, and spent many winters in Mexico. As life-long Catholics, they were excited to visit Vatican City, and went on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land to walk in the steps of Christ. No matter where they travelled, they hardly ever missed Sunday mass. He also was a member of -- and active in -- the Knights of Columbus for many years.

In retirement, Tony pursued his art -- winning numerous awards at various art shows.
He was devoted to his family, and enjoyed having his children, grandchildren, and extended family around him at all times.

Tony is survived by his wife Penny; sister Camille (David) Cobb; children Debra (Tim) Leahy, Kim Snider (Cliff Winchester), Linda Klama (Larry Lindsay), Raymond Kolk, Christopher Kolk, Steven Scheuren, Robert Klama, Kenneth (Debra) Kolk; many grandchildren, great-grand children, great-great grandchildren; loving nieces and nephews; and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother Dorothy Klama (nee Schiele), brother Philip (Alta) Mayer, and beloved son Anthony Keith Klama.

Visitation Monday November 9, 2020 from 3:00pm until time of prayers 7:00pm with a Knights of Columbus ceremony 5:00pm at The Countryside Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1640 Greenmeadows Blvd., Streamwood. Memorial Mass 11:00am Tuesday at St. Ansgar Catholic Church, 2040 Laurel Ave., Hanover Park, Illinois (meet at church). Cremation will be private at The Countryside Crematory. Info (630)289-8054
