Andrew Kolano

May 25, 1934 — November 21, 2021

Andrew E. Kolano, 87, of Carol Stream, IL, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2021. Andrew (Andy), son of Andrzej and Zofia (Wytrwal) Kolano, was born in Braddock, PA on May 25, 1934, the next to youngest of ten children.
Andrew was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He is survived by sisters Stephanie Fichtner and Dolores Sweatlock, children (with Margaret Rogel Kolano) Andrea (Bill) Swanson, John Kolano, Maria (Thomas) Kolano, Joseph (Robin) Kolano, and Paul (Prudence) Kolano, stepdaughter Barbara (Mark) McGahey, grandchildren Danielle (Estela), Carly, Will, Madeline, Hannah, Jacob, Zachary, Ethan, Isabella, Finn, Gabrielle, Eva, and Garrett, and many nieces and nephews.
Andrew was preceded in death by wife Paula Danler (Hu) Kolano, stepdaughter Pamela Hu, sisters Catherine Motkowski, Jean Puskarich, Elizabeth Lawrence, Lucille Huber, and Mary Kolano, and brothers Chester and Joseph Kolano.
Andrew was an avid Steelers fan who enjoyed watching football, hockey, and tennis, and playing pinochle with his family. He also loved to travel, visiting numerous countries in the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
Though Andrew had to wear a leg brace for most of his life (after contracting polio during childhood), his positive outlook on life was an inspiration. Rather than dwelling on past misfortunes, he instead preached hard work and dedication, and through these principles, rose to become the top salesman at one of the pioneers of computing technology, Wang Laboratories. His strong belief in education and passion for new discoveries instilled a love of learning in all of his children. His amazing spirit and incredible generosity will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
A memorial gathering will be held on December 10, 2021 at Countryside Funeral Home in Bartlett from noon to 2 pm (with a brief service at 1:30), followed by a graveside burial service at 2:30 pm at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Windsor Park/Johnson Health Care Center staff gift fund in memory of Andrew (and in honor of those who provided excellent care for him) would be much appreciated. Donation checks should be made out to Covenant Living at Windsor Park with "staff gift fund" included in the memo, 124 Windsor Park Drive, Carol Stream, IL 60188.
