It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Ananya (Mintu) Bhattacharya, who left this world on Friday, August 8, 2025, at her home in Roselle, IL.
Ananya was born in Kolkata, India and was raised in Ariadaha where her family continues to be revered. She grew up with her parents, three brothers, and a large extended family – who imparted in her a love for family and community.
Ananya carried that love with her as she ventured to the US upon getting married. She built deep friendships in the then-growing Bengali community in Chicago, and raised her children there with valued friends that were like family.
She earned Associate’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Accounting, leading to a 25-year career at United Airlines that she enjoyed to the fullest, again making lifelong friends.
She travelled the world (most recently on a cruise from Budapest to Bucharest), but equally loved her neighborhood walks. She cried when first learning to cook, but grew into someone who loved to feed people (and left her family with a refrigerator full of home cooked food). She often said no, but she never held anyone back from exploring and achieving (and was always there to celebrate).
Ananya was a cherished daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, and grandmother, and is survived by her husband of nearly 53 years - Samir Kumar Bhattacharya, her children – Aparupa (Saheli) Bhattacharya (and husband Bradley Thobe), Soumya Kumar Bhattacharya (and wife Katie Napawan), cherished grandson Avi, and all of her grand-dogs.
Her kindness and spirit will remain in our hearts forever.
Visitation Wednesday August 13, 10:00am until time of cremation 12Noon at Countryside Funeral Home 950 South Bartlett Road (at Stearns Road) Bartlett. Cremation will take place at Countryside Crematory.
