Visitation for Alex Joseph Mastera of Elgin, formerly of Reno, NV, and Portland, OR will be held Sunday, June 3, 2018 from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Countryside Funeral Home, 950 South Bartlett Rd., Bartlett, IL 60103. His funeral service will be Monday, June 4, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary Church, 397 Fulton St, Elgin, IL 60120, with final viewing at 12:30 p.m. Following church services, burial will held at Bartlett Cemetery.
A graduate of Elgin High School class of 2006, Alex went on to the University of Nebraska - Lincoln and graduated with both a Bachelor's and Master’s Degree in Architecture. A creative soul, after school Alex pursued his passion by becoming a Graphic Designer.
Alex was a lover of good coffee, hot and spicy food, and finding unique recipes to replicate. With a love for running, Alex participated in many races, which included being a two-time Chicago Marathon finisher. Alex loved to read and was a huge music and movie aficionado. Along with a witty sense of humor, Alex was known for being a kind, gentle, loving, and patient man.
A huge Nebraska Husker football fan, Alex will now have the best seat in the house this fall to watch Scott Frost’s coaching debut. (People are encouraged to wear Husker gear or red clothes to his wake.)
Alex loved spending time with his family and friends. He was the beloved husband of Kelly (nee Nega) and dad to his furry dog, Lucy; loving son of Peter and Kimberly (nee Desler) Mastera; cherished grandson of Dale and Annette Desler and Arthur and Susan Mastera; dearest brother of Jake and Abbey Mastera; fond son-in-law of Gemma Nolan Nega and brother-in-law of William Nega III; precious cousin and nephew to many, and treasured friend to people from near and far.
