Alan Rateike
March 23, 1947 — September 25, 2023
With great sadness, our family said goodbye to Alan Irving Rateike, 76, on September 25, 2023 after his fierce battle with cancer. A resident of Hanover Park born and raised in Des Plaines, alumni of Maine West, Air Force veteran, Alan worked for the City of Des Plaines, and Air Canada for 24 years.
Alan was a die-hard Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, which shows in his extensive collection of hats and t-shirts. We raise the W flag in his honor.
From age 5 through retirement, Big Al’s happy place was Webb Lake in Hackensack, MN. He enjoyed fishing, built a cabin, volunteered at the Children’s Fishing Contest, and daily kept his bug zapper mosquito free.
Alan was predeceased by his parents Ruth and Irving Rateike. He is survived by his wife Monica, daughters Kassie (Frank), Tracy (Carl), sister Shirley, nieces and nephews Chris (Melissa), Tiffany Myers, Jeremy and Lynette Koller and numerous cousins and friends.
A Memorial service will be held in the spring, date to be announced. In lieu of flowers donations to the wounded warrior project or your favorite veteran charity would be appreciated.
