Agapita “Pita” Olano peacefully entered eternal rest on July 3, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on March 24, 1936, in Cebu City, Philippines, Pita was the youngest daughter of Julio and Filomena (Bontuyan) Zanoria. Pita pursued her calling in nursing and graduated from the Southern Islands Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. She began her career at Borromeo Clinic in Cebu City, working with one of her favorite aunts. In 1969, Pita immigrated to the United States and settled in Chicago. She continued her nursing career at the Cook County Hospital system for 27 years.
On September 1, 1971, Pita married Crescencio "Joe" Olano during a visit back home to Cebu. After Joe joined Pita in Chicago, they welcomed twins Brian and Diane in August of 1972 and lived in a humble apartment on Thomas Street. In 1977, they moved to Orland Park. Together they built a loving home founded on faith, respect, and unwavering devotion. Weekends were spent fishing with friends at Candlewick Lake and mah jong parties in Derby Hills. After taking an early retirement, Pita enjoyed traveling with Joe and their close friends. Later, she found one of her greatest pleasures in helping care for her grandsons. Being their Nana brought her immense happiness, and she treasured every moment spent sharing her love, wisdom, and encouragement with them.
Pita is survived by her devoted husband, Crescencio "Joe" Olano; her son, Brian (Sherylle); her daughter, Diane (Carlo) Tamunday; her cherished grandsons, Noah, Christian, Lucas, Ian, and Ben; her sister-in-law Matilde Zanoria, and her brothers-in-law Alfredo (Carlita) and Carlito (Virginia). She also leaves behind many dear nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever treasure her memory.
Pita was preceded in death by her father, Julio Zanoria, mother Filomena Bontuyan; and her beloved siblings, Susana Menina, Gliceria Balcon, and Simplicio Zanoria.
