IN HER OWN WORDS
We took a bus trip from two of our locations -- Bartlett and South Elgin
-- on Wednesday, traveling to tour the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. We had a wonderful guide, Justin, who answered our many questions about the park and the process for veterans to be buried there.
Several of our guests have loved ones interred there, and we were able to visit their resting place. After the tour we enjoyed a box lunch together at Lloyd Erickson Park in Elwood and traveled back to our funeral homes.
Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery offers free burial to all honorably discharged veterans, their spouses and minor children. This includes the gravesite or niche (columbarium), grave liner and grave marker. Additionally they provide a 21-gun salute upon interment, which is a deeply moving ceremony.
We couldn't have asked for a better day. Nor could we have paid greater tribute to our country's soldiers.
